Slow Cooker Greek Potatoes

Buttery crisp-tender potatoes with olive oil, garlic, lemon and oregano. Made so easily in the crockpot – less than 5 min prep!

You can never have too many potato recipes. I have one with plenty of cheese, another one deep fried into mashed potato balls and another one pancake style among a few others. No wait, like probably a dozen.

And now I can add these Greek-style potatoes in my carboholics anonymous arsenal.

Smothered in olive oil, melted butter, oregano, freshly squeezed lemon juice and a whole mess of garlic, I will be keeping this entire crockpot full of potatoes for myself.

Why bother with a main dish?

Slow Cooker Greek Potatoes

Yield: 8 servings

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Cook Time: 4 hours

Total Time: 4 hours 5 minutes

Buttery crisp-tender potatoes with olive oil, garlic, lemon and oregano. Made so easily in the crockpot – less than 5 min prep!


  • 3 pounds fingerling potatoes, halved
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • Zest of 1 lemon
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley leaves


  1. Lightly coat the inside of a 6-qt slow cooker with nonstick spray.
  2. Place potatoes, olive oil, butter, lemon juice, garlic, oregano and paprika into the slow cooker; season with salt and pepper, to taste. Cover and cook on low heat for 4-5 hours or high heat for 2-3 hours, or until tender.*
  3. Serve immediately, garnished with lemon zest and parsley, if desired.

*Cooking time may need to be adjusted depending on the size of the potatoes.

Is it possible to cut this recipe in half and get the same results??

I do not have a crock pot. Is it possible to adjust this recipe for use on my stovetop or oven?

Yes, you can pop this in the oven at 400 degrees F and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown and crisp.

Can I use any type of potatoes or just fingerling?

Any type of potatoes will work just fine.

I love love love anything Greek/Mediterranean style. The flavor combinations just seem so much more fresh and refreshing than others!

I don’t have garlic on hand. Can I use garlic powder?

Yes, absolutely. The ratio for dry to fresh spices is typically 1:3.

Ok…couldn’t find fingerling potatoes at my store (I live in Nova Scotia and some things seem to be seasonal) so I subbed in mini gems. These little darlings are half the size of the fingerlings so I didn’t half them. It all turned out awesomely but because they were whole they weren’t what you would call crispy but boy o boy were they tender and delish. I couldn’t resist putting some feta on them in the last 5 minutes in the slow cooker and it was wonderful.

I never made potatoes like this in a crockpot before. It seems like an easy way to make a side dish to go with your meal. One less thing to worry about. Thanks for sharing!

Will these be good as leftovers?

I am cooking pork belly in my sc could I wrap this in tin foil and add in or would they need to stew in the juice?

Can this recipe be used as a freezer meal? I’ve never tried prepping and freezing potatoes ahead of time for the slow cooker! These look so delicious!

So so so so so good! I grilled some salt and peppered chicken breasts as the protein for this dish, and topped everything off with some feta cheese. It was absolutely wonderful. I guess that the fingerlings I used were a little larger than normal because after being on high for 2.5hr they were not quite done, I ended up doing them for 3hr and 10min, they were perfect.

what size crockpot. I need to make it for 10-12 guests?

Jenny, this recipe yields about 8 servings utilizing a 6-qt slow cooker, so anything over 6-qt should be sufficient.

Delicious! Cut the recipe In half and baked at 400 for 45 mins, stirring half way thru then sprinkled with feta.

Very disappointed. The potatoes certainly cooked but there was no evidence of being crispy. I followed the recipe to a T. I did salvage the cooked potatoes and added onions, ground beef, Garam masala. Turned out ok. I will use other recipes you have posted – cooking is an experiment!

So I must ask – did you follow the recipe exactly as written without any substitutions?

Mine did not come out crispy at all either (honestly, I didn’t expect them to), but they were delicious! I’ll definitely make them again.

Should the potatoes be cut in half before cooking?

Yes, this is indicated in the ingredient list:

In your picture, it looks like you only halved the larger potatoes. Is that true? Seems likely to get similar cooking time for smaller potatoes.

If I’m cooking it in the oven, should it be covered?

Nope – no cover needed.

Can I substitute another 2 tablespoons of oil for the butter to make this dairy free?

These came out really well. I was afraid they might burn, but I was pleasantly surprised when they came out just like roasted potatoes. There are a few changes I am going to make next time, just to suit our tastes. I’m going to press the garlic instead of mincing it, to get more garlic flavor, and use a little bit more Oregano. All in all, this recipe came out wonderful, and I love how convenient the slow cooker makes this wonderful side dish. Picky Hubby very much approved. Oh, and if you can’t find fingerling potatoes (like me), I found that the baby dutch potatoes worked just as well, just cut in half as you would the fingerling potatoes.

These are not vegan. I scour the internet for recipes that I can make for my severely dairy-allergic 2 year old and the butter in these makes them not vegan. However it could be substituted with earth balance dairy free “butter” perhaps and be worth a try.

I have made these potatoes over and over! They are our summer favourites as we use them for Family BBQ’s. I also use the left overs for Potato salad, It makes the best potato salad ever! I use 5 pounds of mini potatoes from Costco so there are always leftovers!

If I double the recipe do I need to increase the time in the slow cooker? Making them for a crowd!

Made these loved them my son went crazy on them will make on regular basis mine didn’t come out crispy but I think I should have dried potates but it doesn’t matter they were still the bomb to die for

Hi! I followed the recipe exactly about four times now and it never comes out crispy. I’m still wondering how yours come out crispy in the crock pot!!
Now I think they are still super delicious and very Mediterranean served soft and hot.

You can pop these in the broiler for 1-3 minutes to help them get super crispy!

These are absolutely gorgeous. Doing Greek dinner for my family for husbands 72nd birthday. Definitely a winner on trial dinner, very tasty, couldn’t source fingelngs in U.K. so used standard potatoes, lovely.

Should I melt the butter before putting it in the slow cooker? Also, how much lemon juice should one lemon yield? I know some are juicier than others and just wanted an estimate. Thanks!!

The butter does not have to be melted. It will melt on its own as it cooks.

On average, one lemon contains 2 tablespoons of lemon juice.

The picture looks like they are crispy. Are you broiling after the crockpot to achieve that? I wouldn’t think they would crisp up in a slow cooker.
