Quick Chicken and Broccoli Stir Fry

A lightning fast noodle stir fry made in just 20 min with simple pantry ingredients. It doesn’t get easier or quicker!

There’s nothing quicker than a noodle stir-fry for those busy weeknights.

And you can use any type of noodles here – fettuccine, spaghetti, angel hair, udon, etc. Really. Any will work just fine.

You can also add in additional veggies to your liking. Mushrooms, carrots, and/or bell peppers would be great additions. You can also swap out the chicken for beef, pork or even tofu.

See, that’s the beauty of stir-frys (Stir-frying? Stir fries? What’s the plural of stir-fry?). It’s completely adaptable to what you have on hand, making dinner an absolute breeze.

Quick Chicken and Broccoli Stir Fry

Yield: 4 servings

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Cook Time: 15 minutes

Total Time: 20 minutes

A lightning fast noodle stir fry made in just 20 min with simple pantry ingredients. It doesn’t get easier or quicker!

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into 1-inch chunks
  • 12 ounces linguine
  • 16 ounces broccoli florets
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley leaves
  • 1/2 teaspoon sesame seeds

For the sauce

  • 1/4 cup reduced sodium soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar, packed
  • 1 tablespoon freshly grated ginger
  • 2 cloves garlic, pressed
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon Sriracha, optional

Directions:

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, oyster sauce, brown sugar, ginger, garlic, sesame oil and Sriracha; set aside, reserving 2 tablespoons.
  2. In a large bowl, combine reserved 2 tablespoons soy sauce mixture and chicken; set aside.
  3. In a large pot of boiling salted water, cook pasta according to package instructions. Within the last 2 minutes of cooking time, add broccoli; drain well.
  4. Heat olive oil in a large skillet or wok over medium high heat. Add chicken to the skillet and cook until golden, about 2-3 minutes. Stir in pasta, broccoli and remaining soy sauce mixture until heated through, about 2 minutes.
  5. Serve immediately, garnished with parsley and sesame seeds, if desired.

You asked about the plural of ‘Stir-fry’. Isn’t it “Stirs-Fry”? Like “Attorneys general”?

I tend to disagree, the stir is singular, the fry .. or fries is plural, hence the use of the plural as there are many choices based on the base recipe.

Such a wonderful base recipe, so versatile. With the chicken would also add carrots and red peppers for colour, and, mini corn for fun.
With pork, would consider green and red peppers and pineapple.

Can I use fish sauce instead of oyster sauce?

You can certainly try substituting fish sauce but without further recipe testing, I cannot speak for how much this will change the overall taste/texture of the dish. Please use your best judgment.

Ok, I’m going to be the one to answer that question honestly. Wow, that is the silliest question I have ever heard. Two completely different flavours. Don’t do it.

This recipe is so timely as I have some Hokkien noodles to use up and always have chicken in the freezer. This looks super kid friendly which are my favourite types of dinners – so I don’t have to cook 2 meals every night – one for the adults and one for the kids. I have so pinned this for next week! Why would you cook twice? Prepare one meal and allow the children to pick and choose. This recipe is so versatile, should work for all.

Love this! Just made last night for dinner. Husband is out of town so it’s just me and two little ones and this was truly easy and delicious. I didn’t really measure out the chicken, broccoli, or pasta so next time I will double the sauce. I’m an extra sauce kinda gal anyway! So glad I found your website! I don’t venture out to different food blogs that much since there are so many of them and they aren’t always that great. Yours is wonderful though! I love that I can follow the directions and the recipes actually turn out! Your website is my now go-to! I do have one problem though, for some reason I can’t really access the site on my tablets as the page will just keep reloading:-( Even on my regular computer, the website seems a little slow. Maybe I’m just not that patient!

Can you use freezen broccoli?

I recommend using fresh broccoli.

Made this for dinner tonight. Very good and very easy, I doubled the sauce because I used the whole pound of pasta and extra chicken. While we were eating I was thinking the same thing as the other reviewer–that I could have easily added strips of carrot, red peppers, frozen peas, etc. My kids aren’t big fans of vegetables but I keep trying and this would be the perfect way to get a few more in.
Thanks for the great photos…I let my kids pick out recipes that they want to try and since everything looks so inviting, they are willing to experiment and go outside their comfort zone.

what is oyster sauce? I don’t have it and I think it isn’t sold in my region. Can’t I make this noodle without oyster sauce?

Oyster sauce is a sauce made with oysters and soy sauce, typically used in Chinese cooking. Here is a great forum on possible oyster sauce substitutes. Hope that helps!

I made this dish last night. I believe it is the 4th recipe I’ve tried from your blog. This one was great. The sauce is complex and delicious. I substituted frozen Asian mixed veggies for the broccoli and Wu Mu noodles for the linguine, but that is one of the best things about your recipes, you can use things you have around your kitchen. I can’t believe how fast this recipe cooked and I would suggest that if you want to make it, have ALL your ingredients out and measured before you start because you will not have time to do so between steps. Oh, and if you’re having trouble finding Oyster Sauce, it is in the Asian Food section of the grocery store. I had to hunt a little bit, but I found one variety next to the soy sauces.

I don’t have a wok…yet. I’ve been using a big deeper frying pan for these types of recipes and it seems to work fine. I was wondering about the pictures posted with the recipe. It looks like it was cooked in a dutch oven. Is that what you used or was it just for the pictures? I would love to use my dutch oven but just not sure if it would work for this.
