Peanut Butter Pupcakes

Treat your pup with these dog-friendly cupcakes filled with pumpkin, applesauce and carrots topped with a peanut butter frosting!

These look dangerously human-friendly, no?

I mean, if it wasn’t for the Milk Bone garnish, you would never know.

My friend almost took a bite.

Until she saw the bone.

So I had to leave a note by the cupcakes.

A big giant sign.

“NOT FOR HUMANS” it said.

But Butters knew what was up.

He patiently did a pose.

I don’t even think I saw him chew.

Peanut Butter Pupcakes

Prep Time: 20 minutes

Cook Time: 20 minutes

Total Time: 40 minutes

Treat your pup with these dog-friendly cupcakes filled with pumpkin, applesauce and carrots topped with a peanut butter frosting!

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1/4 cup old fashioned oats
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 cup pumpkin puree
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 carrots, peeled and shredded

For the frosting

  • 4 ounces cream cheese, at room temperature
  • 1/4 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 6 Milk-Bone biscuits, small

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line a 6-cup standard muffin tin with paper liners; set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour, oats, baking powder, pumpkin, apple sauce, vegetable oil and eggs. Stir in carrots.
  3. Scoop the batter evenly into the muffin tray. Place into oven and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until a tester inserted in center comes out clean. Remove from oven and cool completely on a wire rack before frosting.
  4. In a medium bowl, combine cream cheese and peanut butter.
  5. Use a small offset spatula or a pastry bag fitted with decorative tip #1M to frost the cupcakes, garnished with Milk-Bone, if desired.

These look so delicious! Recently got a dog at the shelter a few months ago, but already planning his 1 year adoption anniversary. Bookmarking this and making it for him next year! Thanks for sharing this recipe!

do you think you can replace the pumpkin with mashed banana?

I love your blog for humans and dogs! My daughters and I made these pupcakes to celebrate our rescue pup’s first birthday, and our blind dog’s gotcha day, along with some friends’ pups birthdays. These were such a hit! We made small muffin size so they were bite-sized for the dogs and they were perfect! Thanks for sharing. Everyone was very impressed by this nice touch for our special babies!

Made them for my Chihuahua’s birthday. These were really easy to make and my 2 Chihuahuas LOVED them! The birthday boy has gastrointestinal problems and I was so happy that these did not upset his stomach 🙂
Cant wait to try some of the other treats!
Thank you!

Thank you so much for this recipe. My English Bull dog’s Adoption day party is next weekend and this is exactly what I was looking for. I have all the ingredients and can’t wait to make this. I like the other poster’s idea of doing mini muffins since we have a lot of chihuahuas also participating in the event.

Made these today for our German Shorthair Pointer’s birthday. They were super easy to make and turned out so cute. Love the milk bone embellishment! Can’t wait for the dogs to enjoy them at our get together this evening!

Can you refrigerate these to keep? If so how long?

As I am not an expert on food safety, I cannot really say with certainty – sorry! Methods for optimal food storage and shelf life should be based on good judgment and what you are personally comfortable with. Hope that helps, Jenna!

Do you think freezing them would work?

I have made these twice now, for each of my pups First Birthdays, and they were a HUGE hit! I have small dogs so I made 9 smaller pupcakes instead of 6. I also gave extras to my co-workers with dogs and was told they were devoured almost instantly! Love this recipe. It is so each and looks fabulous when finished! Thank you!

I’ve never made cupcakes for a dog before, but my kids insisted for our pups birthday. It was really fun for them and fun for all of us to watch her enjoy them.

Are the shredded carrots and old fashioned oats necessary?
