Honey Orange Firecracker Shrimp

Sweet and spicy crispy shrimp for all occasions (appetizer or main) with the most heavenly and amazing honey orange sauce!

I’m all about tailgating apps – hot dogs, sheet pan nachos, chicken wings, you name it.

I’ll take them all.

This firecracker shrimp.

This really takes the cake.

The honey orange sauce is the true star here.

And thanks to McCormick, the sauce comes together in seconds using a few pantry spices.

Now you can drizzle, toss, dunk or dip these crispy shrimp babies.

But I’d go for the drizzle+dunk action.

Honey Orange Firecracker Shrimp

Sweet and spicy crispy shrimp for all occasions (appetizer or main) with the most heavenly and amazing honey orange sauce!


  • 1 pound medium shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil

For the sauce

  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons freshly squeezed orange juice
  • Zest of 1 orange
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger


  1. In a large bowl, season shrimp with salt and pepper, to taste. Stir in cornstarch and gently toss to combine. Working one at a time, dip the shrimp into the eggs.
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a large saucepan. Add shrimp and cook until golden brown, about 1-2 minutes. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate; discard excess oil.
  3. To make the glaze, combine honey, orange juice, orange zest, garlic powder, red pepper flakes and ginger over medium low heat. Bring to a boil, simmering until thickened, about 1-2 minutes.
  4. Serve shrimp immediately, tossed or drizzled with honey mixture, garnished with orange zest, if desired.

This sounds FAB, but is there a way to make it without frying the shrimp? Hopefully yes!

Made this for my girlfriend and I Monday night. Didn’t have Orange Juice (used water instead) or Ginger and it still came out tasting great over rice. And as with the other recipe I made from here, no leftovers, cause it was so good. haa haa Thank you!

My husband is not a big shrimp fan (I know, he’s crazy!) Would this work with chicken?

If made with chicken would you still recommend coating the chicken with egg? Or would it be okay to omit that step? I have a rather unfortunate egg allergy 🙁

Yes, you can omit as needed.

I always order firecracker shrimp as an appetizer whenever it’s offered at a restaurant. I have yet to make it myself at home so this is perfect! It looks delicious!

Sorry I’m a complete novice in lasagna… i am throwing a dinner party and just realized one guest is vegetarian! Now because i have sooo much to cook, I want to make this and freeze it…now for the stupid novice question:

Do i bake this and then freeze it…or do i just have it ready in layers (no baking) and then freeze it.
And both ways, bake later for how long after coming out of the freezer?
