Garlic Butter Shrimp Pasta
An easy peasy pasta dish that’s simple, flavorful and incredibly hearty. And all you need is 20 min to whip this up!
With the cold weather upon us, it’s all about staying in with your sweatpants and cooking up some major comfort food. Although I should mention it’s pushing 80 degrees F out here in Southern California and I’m still walking around in shorts and flip flops.
Still, that’s not stopping me from indulging in the ultimate kind of comfort food and throwing a shrimp and pasta party with Eat Shrimp and Calphalon. And with the help of Calphalon’s Contemporary Nonstick 3.5 qt. Pour and Strain Sauce Pan and Stainless Steel Utensils Silicone Tipped Tongs, this dish will come together in just 20 minutes from start to finish.
All you have to do is boil up some pasta and saute your shrimp in a pool of garlic-butter-herb goodness. Once that’s ready, just toss in your pasta and some fresh greens. That’s it. It’s easy, quick, and comforting in any kind of weather!

Garlic Butter Shrimp Pasta
Yield: 4 servings

- 8 ounces fettuccine
- 1 pound medium shrimp, peeled and deveined
- Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- 8 tablespoons (1 stick) unsalted butter, divided
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
- 2 cups baby arugula
- 1/4 cup freshly grated Parmesan
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley leaves
- In a large pot of boiling salted water, cook pasta according to package instructions; drain well.
- Season shrimp with salt and pepper, to taste; set aside.
- Melt 2 tablespoons butter in a large skillet over medium high heat. Add garlic, oregano and red pepper flakes, and cook, stirring frequently, until fragrant, about 1-2 minutes.
- Add shrimp and cook, stirring occasionally, until pink, about 2-3 minutes; set aside.
- Melt remaining 6 tablespoons butter in the skillet. Stir in pasta, arugula and Parmesan until arugula begins to wilt, about 2 minutes. Stir in shrimp.
- Serve immediately, garnished with parsley, if desired.

Hi! I’m living in Mexico where arugula is virtually non-existent. Can I use spinach or a local green called Chaya in place of it?
Spinach would be a great substitute!

Could the Arugula be left out or would you have to substitute for it? Anything else besides Spinach? Love your site, I’m new to it. Love that the recipes are easy to make & so tasty.
Kale would also work very well in this dish.
Do You think it would be good with Broccoli?, Cause I don’t like Arugala or Spinach.Well I like them but not in this recipe .I would make it the way I think sounds a lot better than the recipe here & My way I would I add Green,Orange,Yellow & Red Bell Peppers Juliened sliced in strips & Garlic in Extra Virgin Olive Oil in a sautee pan until tender & Then add the Shrimp with Butter Garlic Sauce.When that’s all done I’d put over Linguini Sounds good already & Making me hungary .I’ll have 2 Make it sometime this week when I have all the right ingredients 2 Make it. I have most of the ingredients .I have the Linguini ,Garlic Cloves ,Broccoli ,Shrimp ,Freshly Grounded Black Pepper ,Salt & Dried Oregano I’d rather use fresh Oregano & With all the different Bell Peppers would give it a very colorful dish.

Totally agree with you Mike. Some people change so many things in a recipe that it’s a totally different dish. I think that this dish sounds super just the way Chungah posted it.

Tried this last night. Fantastic. Everyone loved it. Used spinach instead of arugula. Next time I will also decrease the amount of butter at the end from the 6 tablespoons to 4. A little too much but still very good. When ever I cook something new and the guys love it I am told “it’s a keeper”. As usual, a Damn Delicious recipe is “a keeper”.

Yes, absolutely, but I find that it is best to use raw shrimp so that you do not run the risk of overcooking the shrimp. But as always, please use your best judgment.
Love pasta but cutting down on carbs. Can I use zucchini noodles instead?

I am a huge damndelicious fan and have cooked many of your fab recipes, and the fam has LOVED every one! I’m sure this one will also become a family fave!! I mean, butter, garlic and shrimp … it doesn’t get much better! We will be enjoying this meal tonight. I don’t have any arugula, so will be subbing baby spinach, and I am fresh out of parm, so will be using cotija instead. It should be interesting.

I made this last week and it was WONDERFUL. I found the recipe to be easy to follow and it came together quickly. I thought the proportions of everything were spot on. I had a hard time finding arugula; I see several suggestions for kale and spinach as alternatives so I need to remember that. Seriously, this was so good. It beats any dish I’d have at a restaurant. Awesome recipe. But I was out of shrimp so I used Louis Kemp Crab Delights and also did not have any arugula or parsley so I used Edamame (soy beans) to give it some color. Very yummy.

I made this for dinner on sunday ( I ate it all :-S) Then made another pot on Monday for my co-workers to try. I know they will love it just as much as I did. I had had a hard time finding arugula in the grocery stores here. One store employee told me to find arugula in the spice aisle **cough Walmart cough cough**

This sounds delicious! I want to make it for dinner tonight but I don’t have any Parmesan. Could I use shredded mozzarella instead? Also could I use mushrooms instead of the arugula?

what is the substitute for crushed red pepper flakes and dried oregano.
You can omit the red pepper flakes and substitute other herbs for the oregano. Hope that helps!
We used cayenne instead.

Found this recipe on pinterest and cooked as one of my dishes. My husband loved it. Had seconds and asked for it to be part of our weekly menu. Mind you he never liked pasta without tomato sauce before. I use kale instead of arugula. I’m not a big fan of cooking but thank you so much. I can’t mess this up.
This is an amazing recipe! By far my favorite for shrimp. Even made “shrimp believers” out of my folks when I had them for dinner!
Love this recipe! I made a double batch for a party and then made it again since everyone ate it up. Just be aware that the crushed red pepper can give it quite a bite. I loved it, but my son who does not like hot spice did not.
What about grilling the shrimp Cajun style to make it a little spicy then mixing it into the sauce? I am just thinking of ways to make this dish a little spicy!

This was so delicious, I did modify and added few things. I grilled the shrimp for presentation look and added grilled sweet peppers and cherry tomatoes. With the noodles and garlic butter sauce I added fresh basil with the baby arugula. My wife loved this dish. Thank you!
I use spinach instead of arugula because I can’t always find it. Also, I add sautéed mushrooms because I love mushrooms. I sautée them in some butter, white wine, & garlic pepper.
