Cheesy Asparagus Gratin

A 5-min appetizer (or side dish)! Simply roast your asparagus with desired herbs, top with cheese and bake until cheesy goodness!

It’s asparagus season, finally!

Asparagus is in season from February-June, but April is typically its peak. So now that it’s in season, let’s roast the crap out of them, and add plenty of cheese.

I mean, it’ll be the easiest gratin you will ever make with 5 min prep.

Cheesy Asparagus Gratin

Yield: 6 servings

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Cook Time: 10 minutes

Total Time: 20 minutes

A 5-min appetizer (or side dish)! Simply roast your asparagus with desired herbs, top with cheese and bake until cheesy goodness!

  • 2 pounds asparagus, trimmed
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
  • Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 4 ounces brie cheese, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley leaves

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Lightly oil a baking sheet or coat with nonstick spray.
  2. Place asparagus in a single layer onto the prepared baking sheet. Stir in butter, garlic and Italian seasoning; season with salt and pepper, to taste.
  3. Place into oven and roast for 8-10 minutes, or until tender but crisp. Top with cheeses and bake for an additional 3-4 minutes, or until melted.
  4. Serve immediately, garnished with parsley, if desired.

Yum, yum, you make everything look and sounds so delicious in your recipe. Can’t wait to try this one to. Thinks!

looks amazing! thank you for sharing 🙂

that blanket of cheese looks so dreamy! and i love roasted asparagus, so this sounds like a great side dish (:

I’m on disability so I have too much free time. I spend a lot of it looking at new ideas for dinner. I’m am completely amazed by how many things you offer are so much like my tastebuds like to try. You certainly named your website correctly! You are by far the best website for recipes I have ever seen (and I’ve seen most of them : ) ).

Although I love asparagus all by itself, without any adornment, I certainly can see how this would be a wonderufl addition to a spring holiday meal. Over-the-top but why not?

Seems like it would be better to coat the asparagus with the seasoned melted butter BEFORE laying in the pan. How do you stir butter into a single layer of asparagus? I’d coat them first, in the baking pan, then lay out singly.

By stirring in the pan, you don’t have to dirty up another pan! But as always, please do what is most comfortable for you! Isn’t that the beauty of home cooking? 🙂

Just served this for dinner. It was a big hit with everyone. Reminded me of a dish I had in Switzerland several years ago. I will definitely make again!!
Thank you!

Could you expound a bit on “Italian seasoning”? Do you mean a pre-mixed version, or a mix of oregano, basil, &…?

Italian Seasoning is a blend of ground spices – basil, oregano, rosemary, and thyme. Common additions to taste also include garlic powder, sage, and cilantro.

Oh my God, I just want to lick my computer screen. Will be cooking this for dinner ASAP.

Silly, but I don’t really understand the recipe…. you say place the asparagus in a single layer and then stir in butter and herbs…. impossible task – maybe ‘dot’ with butter mixture would be better – also your final photo shows the asparagus piled several high… I just don’t get it!

Manon, I’m sorry that you are having so much difficulty. Yes, you can stir in the butter because it is melted as indicated in the ingredient list. And yes, the final photo shows asparagus piled several high – this is simply for photographic purposes. Does that make sense?

I made this tonight as a side dish. My whole family loved it! Thanks so much!

Omg I can’t even.

I am making this tomorrow!!

This cheesy asparagus gratin looks amazing. Thanks 🙂

I truly wish there were videos…this sounds absolutely scrumptious…especially since I have this love affair with asparagus and seemingly can’t get enough of it. I love this page already and today is my very first day visiting. Looking forward to trying a lot of these quick and easy recipes. Thank you

Manon dont take “stir” literally take it in context, in this context that would be more like coat the asparagus in butter.
As for the single layer think like this:
Layer of asparagus then layer of cheese then layer of asparagus then another layer of cheese

OMG this looks really yummy. Can you pls upload video on making this item. I really wanna try it at my home.

im gonna try this at home…looking yummy…specially that cheesy layer..

Looks amazing but I NEED that pan in the photo! Can you share the source? Thanks and Happy Easter!

I think it was Amazon! 🙂
